Many kitchens can benefit from extra cupboard space, extra countertop space and visual impressions of a Kitchen Island Cabinets. If your kitchen does not already have an island, it is surprisingly easy to create your own
You need. :
Scour the flea markets and thrift stores for a good base. You can easily use a lightweight chest of Kitchen Island Cabinets, or a rabbit cage base. Think about recovering the sides of the base with another surface like breadboard or smooth Luan (can be found in most hardware stores or timber yards). Cover the edges of the base with the corner casting. You can build a slightly coarser bottom if you feel it would improve the look. Consider using the list up and down or 1×4 panels on all 4 sides.
You want to paint the entire unit and remove the existing bench. Depending on the look you want, you can check out the local store builder’s supply for a suitable laminate countertop. Check out the Ikea range of Kitchen Island Cabinets (they have a phenomenal butcher top block table built identical to their butcher block countertops, just smaller and cheaper). Install the top (if wood) with L brackets and small screws. Ask the specialist at the builder’s delivery store for tips on how to install a laminate. Install hardware for a finish.
